Danish Delights: Rødgrød med fløde [roygroy ma flyrr]

I must be the last person in Denmark, who hasn’t understood that we live in dangerous times. While I was in Utrecht last week, there had been some cases of killer cucumbers in Germany (infested with e-coli bacteria) which made every single vegetable and piece of fruit coming from either Germany or Spain (that part I didn’t quite catch) seem very ominous. Suddenly all of our good intentions concerning a proper green-filled diet had been turned into a game of Russian roulette.

Parsnip Soufflé – Yay!

Why hello autumn – who the hell invited you here? I for sure am not ready to greet you and your earthy colours welcome just yet. Although that’s not very PC, I know. We’re all supposed to be “can’t-wait-to-go-for-long-walks-wearing-my-perfect-vintage-sweater”. Nope, not quite there yet. I’m still in total denial of the fact that there’ll be no more strawberry-picking for little old me this year. But seeing as it IS an inevitable fact, we’d better get the most out of it, right? That’s why I think it’s time for some parsnip soufflé.

New Year’s Eve 2009

Okay, so I’ve had this amazing New Year’s post planned for quite some time now where I finally give you the recipe for the traditional Danish New Year’s kage “Kransekage” (above left and partly on the right too) that I’ve shown you only in the shape of a picture for the last two years. But then January happened and I’ve done nothing about it so far. That’s why I’m giving you, my supposed readers, the chance to interact and change the course of history.

Danish Delights: Fødselsdagsboller

Happy Birthday Rolls. No, we’re not celebrating the birthday of the roll, but with the roll. Big difference – I’m not crazy you know. Talking to my oven fresh cuties here is not my thang, even though they do have a lot of personality if I may say so. But if I were to talk to them, I’m sure they would say something in the line of

This Year’s Model (well, last year’s, really)

Just to show you how a “kransekage” looks, when it hasn’t been on the floor…(compare to previous New Year’s eve-post here).

And while I’m at it: Happy New Year and welcome to 2009! Hopefully it’ll be a year filled with heavenly mouthfuls.

What a Blast!

After having toiled over this architectural masterpiece of a “kransekage” (traditional Danish marzipan cake for new year’s) I applied the icing with slapdash precision and rushed off.

On the metro I nearly strained an unmentionable muscle or two trying to rescue the sucker from certain doom. Lo and behold if it didn’t make it in one piece to the party only to be knocked off the table shortly before this picture was taken.

At least now I know why we chose to make these sturdy fellows for an alcohol infested evening such as this… Happy new year people!
