Recipe Tryout: Lorraine Pascale’s Lemon and Blueberry Millefeuille

This Saturday we invited a couple of friends over for dinner and some silly-time. It was a great excuse to go mad in the kitchen and so we skipped our fancy plans of museums and bicycle browsing in favor of shopping and cooking. Just my kind of Saturday.

First thing I did was to go through the folder of recipes I compiled during my recent months of BBC iPlayer-addiction. Luckily I found Lorraine Pascale’s lemon and blueberry millefeuille: Flaky caramelised puff pastry gently sandwiching vanilla cream, lemon and blueberry.

Recipe Tryout: Power Bars from 101 Cookbooks

Okay, so the latest trick to get me back into the posting game is to allow me a maximum of 15 mins. to do it. So here goes some serious speed-posting:

Do you ever get those after-lunch sugar cravings? Well, this is the cure. I made a relaxed reinterpretation of the recipe from 101 Cookbooks, by converting it to decilitres, adding a few touches of my own but basically keeping the proportions of sugar/syrup and muesli filling intact. Here goes:

Recipe Tryout: Mint Chip Ice Cream from David Lebovitz

Ahh David Lebovitz, don’t know the guy but I hear he’s living in Paris. Anyway, he has a very nice blog and some cookbooks on his conscience and that’s how I stumbled upon his recipe for Mint Chip Ice Cream. You see, I too have childhood memories of scooping up some kryptonite-green ice cream into the funny wafer cones my grandparents had back in Gordonvale. Naturally I had to try David’s version, especially because it promised to be much less damaging to my Superwoman shield, what with the natural colouring and all. Anyway, just thought I’d share my results with you and pass on the recipe to any of you who might also like the combo of cream, mint and dark crackling chocolate strings in one cool bowl of happy.

Recipe Tryout: Chocolate Puddle Cookies from 101 Cookbooks

Ahh Sunday. With the laziness and the stained sweat pants and the greasy hair stowed away in a knot. Gotta love it. That and the fact that you actually have time to fool around in the kitchen (not with your sex partner but with a spatula. Sorry, just realised that it might be potato-potaaartow to some people…), anyway, found this amazing looking but not quite as sexy sounding recipe on one of my favourite foodie blogs called 101 Cookbooks (maybe it’s a tiny bit because the blogger is also called Heidi).

Recipe Tryout: Chocolate Macaroons from Cannelle et Vanille

Whenever I’m travelling, this blog works as my cookbook. So imagine my surprise when I wanted to suggest a nice chocolate recipe for my niece’s baptism in Stockholm and I couldn’t find one single chocolate recipe here! And it’s not like I haven’t been yapping on about the endless pleasures of the cocoa persuasion, but somehow I’ve managed to avoid actually putting that into action. So sorry! Luckily I’ve found just the right recipe to make amends with on a very pretty sister blog called Cannelle et Vanille: French Chocolate Macaroons.

Recipe Tryout: Vichyssoise Soup from BBC Food

Hello everybody, this is Silas Bo talking. I’ve been invited to do a post on whatever came to mind as long as it was food-related. Well, first thing that came a-knocking was soup. Since poor Heidi has been under the mutilating care of a dentist everything is now liquified in one way or another. And where should one go from there but into the wonderful world of soups? (mind your footwear, mmmkay?).
